Captains Get Past Cleveland, 7-6
The San Diego Captains downed the Cleveland Bobcats, 7-6. The hitting star was first baseman Troy Stallings. Stallings went 3-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 times for the Captains. San Diego reliever Ron Barc picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Pat Burkholder was saddled with the loss. The Bobcats drop to 9-14, as their fitful start to the 1972 campaign continues.

The decisive blow was delivered by Dick Howard in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a 2-run double off 33-year old right-handed pitcher Pat Burkholder to win the game for San Diego. The home crowd went nuts.

"It's great when the crowd goes berserk," Stallings said.
