The St. Louis Explorers knocked off the Cleveland Bobcats, 5-1, in National Baseball League action at Corps of Discovery Stadium. St. Louis pitcher and Middleborough, Massachusetts, native Bernie Underwood had an outstanding performance. The Bobcats fall to 9-14 and continue their uneven start to the 1973 season.
In the bottom of the fifth, St. Louis left fielder Ken Osterhage had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Osterhage stroked a 2-run single to right. It made the score 3-1, St. Louis. For the game, he went 1-4. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"Winning is always a team effort," Underwood said after the game.
