Bulls Bridle Bluebirds, 4-2
|
Kansas City turned a good effort from starter Bernie Underwood into a win over the Brooklyn Bluebirds at Independence Field. The Bulls won the game, 4-2. The winning pitcher was Underwood, now 1-0. He tossed 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 4. Andy Luce finished the game for Kansas City and earned his 1st save.
Ken Durick drove in one run for Kansas City. The 21-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jorge Sandoval. It was his 10th RBI of the season.
Durick called the win a test of his team's "mettle."
The Bluebirds drop to 11-12 and continue their mediocre start to the 1971 season.
