Jimmy Trent pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The St. Louis Explorers, despite Trent's fine outing, dropped a 3-2 decision to the New York Knickerbockers at Knickerbocker Stadium. Brian Long nailed down his 4th save. The Knickerbockers, now 16-8, have been playing some good baseball.

The Knickerbockers got a big at-bat from second baseman Steve Wright. For the game, Wright went 1 for 3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave New York a 3-2 lead.

"We squandered some opportunities," said St. Louis manager Ray Fleetwood.
