Blockbusters Handed 9-5 Loss by Cleveland
Due in large part to shortstop Ernie Wilkins, the Cleveland Bobcats sunk the Los Angeles Blockbusters, 9-5. Wilkins went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. The winning pitcher was Paul Darch. He tossed 125 pitches over 8 innings, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits. With the loss, Los Angeles drops to 12-12.

The Blockbusters had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Bobcats going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 1972 Rookie of the Year Award winner Phil Chirico came to the plate. Chirico hit a 2-run double on a 0-1 cutter from Los Angeles hurler Rick McStay. It was Chirico's 11th double of the year.

"It was a solid team effort," said Chirico after the game.
