Wolverines 7-4 Winners Over Los Angeles
|
Despite a fine performance by shortstop John Fine, the Los Angeles Pobladores lost to the Detroit Wolverines, 7-4. Fine was 1 for 2 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 3 times. Elmer Bernstein recorded the save, his 1st. The win brings the Wolverines to 9-14, an inauspicious start for a team that made the playoffs last season.
Jerry Plumley went 1-3 with a double and a walk for Detroit. The reigning Most Valuable Player Award winner had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring walk off Dan Turner. It was his 15th walk of the season.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Plumley.
