Empires Turn Away Northmen, 3-2
|
The exploits of second baseman Gary Austin, who is tied for 5th in the ABL in RBI with 16, helped the New York Empires defeat the Twin Cities Northmen, 3-2. Austin was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. New York goes to 12-11.
Had Austin not come through in the bottom of the seventh, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Austin hit a run-scoring single. The Empires took the lead, 3-2, and never looked back.
"If you chase it, you need to get it," said New York skipper Dan Whiting.
