Drillers Edge Empires, 6-5
|
Houston beat New York at Queens Field, escaping with a 6-5 win. The win in large part was due to second baseman Lou Ward. He went 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Paul Wiley, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 5 runs on 9 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 0. His record now stands at 3-2. The win lifts Houston to a record of 14-9.
Houston used a clutch at-bat from Mark Sisson to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Drillers ahead, 6-4. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"I like our moxie," said Drillers manager Steven Palps.
