Quakers Get One-Run Win at Brooklyn
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Philadelphia Quakers and the Brooklyn Bluebirds, pitcher Jeff Jordan was the difference between victory and defeat. The Philadelphia left-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 2-1 Quakers win. The winner was Jordan. He threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. The loser was Kevin Wade. With the loss, Brooklyn falls to 1-2.
Vern Friend, who finished 5th in the NBL in triples with 9 in 1973, had a direct impact on the outcome. Friend contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning to put Philadelphia up, 2-1.
"We just didn't score enough runs to win," said Brooklyn manager John Meeker.
