Lockhart Helps Washington Cruise to 11-3 Win
|
Washington right fielder Mike Lockhart contributed to his team's 11-3 win over the Brooklyn Bluebirds. Lockhart, who finished 3rd in the NBL in stolen bases with 35 last year, went 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Eagles. Alberto Vinueza was the winner. Over 7 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 9 hits, with no walks and 3 strikeouts. Washington, with the win, is 2-1.
Washington relied on the hitting of John Ellison to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Eagles on top, 3-0. For the game, Ellison had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Washington skipper J P Scott.
