Northmen Strike Down Empires, 9-3
|
The Twin Cities Northmen topped the New York Empires, 9-3, at Twin Cities Stadium. Twin Cities catcher Rick Giardina was a spark plug for the offense. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Kim Glanden, who is tied for 5th in the ABL with a 1.54 ERA, was the winner. He's now 2-1. The loser was Nate Frampton. New York falls to 13-12.
The Northmen got a big hit from right fielder Carl Jacobs. Facing New York pitcher Tom Duncan in the bottom of the seventh, Jacobs pounded a bases-clearing double to left-center. His 9th double of the season put the Northmen ahead, 7-3.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Twin Cities manager Jason Gudim.
