A good performance from catcher Hank Cummings helped the New York Knickerbockers defeat the Milwaukee Dairymen, 13-7. Cummings went 4-4 with 4 singles and a walk. He scored 3 times for the Knickerbockers. Dave Torre, the winner, improved to 2-0. He held Milwaukee to 4 runs on 5 hits over 7.1 innings, while racking up 6 strikeouts. With the loss, Milwaukee falls to 8-16.

The Knickerbockers got a big hit from center fielder Jeff Madsen. Facing Milwaukee pitcher Andy Campbell in the bottom of the fifth, Madsen pounded a 2-run double to center. His 4th double of the season put the Knickerbockers ahead, 8-4.

"It was great to come out and swing the bats," Cummings told the New York Chronicle.
