Empires Rally Late to Nip Northmen

The New York Empires beat the Twin Cities Northmen, 5-4, at Queens Field. New York second baseman Gary Austin had the hot bat. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 doubles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Danilo Molina finished the game for New York and earned his 1st save. With their winning streak at 4, the Empires have raced to a strong start this season.
Paul Brower, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1963 draft, helped out the New York cause in the bottom of the eighth inning with a 2-run single. For the game, the left fielder was 2-4 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said New York manager Dan Whiting.
