Bobcats Victors, 5-4, at San Diego
|
The Cleveland Bobcats knocked off the San Diego Captains, 5-4, in National Baseball League action at San Diego Sporting Complex. Cleveland pitcher and Brentwood, California, native Bruce Cardenas had an outstanding performance. Joe Clabaugh earned the save for Cleveland, his 3rd. Cleveland, now 17-9, has played well in the early going.
Bill Harper had a big 2-run double for the Bobcats in the top of the fourth inning. With Cleveland leading 3-1 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a cutter from Jack DeWitt, who led the NBL in saves with 30 in 1973, and swatted a double to left. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Bobcats ahead, 5-1.
"Bruce throwing strikes, pounding the zone, that is exactly what you want to see," said Cleveland manager Daniel Mays.
