Montreal Loses, 4-2, to Toronto in 12
|
The Toronto Hurons picked up a win at LaSalle Stadium, knocking off the Montreal Habitants, 4-2. On the mound for Toronto was right-hander Larry Haines. He played a key role in the triumph. Toronto pitcher Ron Gordon got the win. He's now 2-0. Mel Calef was tagged with the loss. Bill John, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1969 draft, nailed down the save.
Toronto used the timely hitting of Henry Rivera to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 12th inning to put the Hurons on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
Toronto manager Jim Burns was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard, they played all the way through," he said.
The loss has the Habitants at 16-10.
