Drillers Send Dallas Home with 6-2 Loss
|
The Houston Drillers picked up a win at Sam Houston Field, knocking off the Dallas Wranglers, 6-2. On the mound for Houston was right-hander Dick Knight. He played a key role in the triumph. Reliever Tom McAteer picked up the win. His record improves to 1-1. Steve Coomes, who finished 4th in the ABL in wins with 17 in 1966, took the loss. The Drillers raised their record to 2-1.
Houston took a 2-1 lead on Lou Ward's 3rd double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Ward hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Dallas pitcher Steve Coomes visibly frustrated.
"Some wins are easy and some are difficult, but either way we come to the ballpark ready to work hard every day," Ward told the Houston Gazette.
