Chicago Gets 5-1 Road Win
|
Bobby Peters, who finished 5th in the NBL in ERA with 2.87 in 1970, was locked in. The left-hander led the Chicago Traders to a 5-1 win against the New York Knickerbockers at Knickerbocker Stadium. Chicago reliever Randy Birch picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Danny Abril absorbed the loss. Earning his 2nd save for Chicago was Gary Allen.
Chicago used a timely hit from Fran Precourt to get the win. The center fielder stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Traders ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"Bobby was able to locate to both sides, up and down," said Chicago manager Larry Link.
New York falls to 15-13.
