Eagles Handle Philadelphia, Snag 6-3 Win
|
The Washington Eagles picked up a win at Monument Field, topping the Philadelphia Quakers, 6-3. On the mound for Washington was right-hander Bill John. He played a principal role in the triumph. John got the win, improving to 1-4. He gave up 6 hits and walked 4 over 8 innings. He allowed 3 runs. The Eagles, now 9-17, have not found much traction so far in 1977.
The Eagles had to work out of trouble in the top of the ninth. The score was 6-3, Washington, with one out. Philadelphia, with the bases loaded, was mounting a threat. Ron Paige dug in at the plate, but on a 0-2 slider, he hit into a double play.
