Washington Bats Go Silent in 1-0 Loss
|
Washington wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Tom McAteer, falling to the Cincinnati Packers, 1-0. McAteer threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. The Eagles fall to 9-18 and continue their sputtering start to the 1971 season.
Cincinnati used the timely hitting of Cory Ruoff to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Packers on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Good teams find a way to win close games," Ruoff said.
