Explorers Get Plucky, 3-2 Win Over Quakers
|
The St. Louis Explorers picked up a win at Corps of Discovery Stadium, downing the Philadelphia Quakers, 3-2, in 10 innings. On the mound for St. Louis was right-hander Harlan Estes, who played a pivotal role in the win. The Quakers, 13-14, continue their so-so start to the 1974 season.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when St. Louis second baseman Dave Bieler, facing Arnold Jarry, had a run-scoring ground out. It gave the Explorers the 3-2 win.
"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Bieler.
