Knickerbockers Win at Philadelphia, 8-0
|
New York Knickerbockers starter Danny Abril turned in an exceptional performance against the Philadelphia Quakers at Quakers Stadium, resulting in a New York win, 8-0. Abril, the winner, moves to 3-2. He threw 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 5 walks. The setback makes the Quakers 10-19.
Jeff Madsen had a big 2-run triple for the Knickerbockers in the top of the sixth inning. With New York leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a sinker from Mel Hartman, who finished 3rd in the NBL in wins with 17 in 1968, and swatted a triple to center. It was his 2nd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Knickerbockers ahead, 3-0.
"We came out on top and that's all I can ask for," said Abril.
