The Los Angeles Pobladores rode a solid performance from 28-year-old starting pitcher Bob Powell to a win, beating the Houston Drillers, 4-1, at Sam Houston Field. Dave Young notched the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. His record now sits at 1-1. The loss makes Houston 14-15.
Ron Roseboro came through with a big-time hit for Los Angeles. The center fielder smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 4-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Powell said.
