San Vicente Park was the site for American Baseball League action featuring the Los Angeles Pobladores and Houston Drillers.
The Houston Drillers defeated the Los Angeles Pobladores, 11-2. Doing his part was left fielder Mike Wells, who went 2 for 4 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. The Pobladores, now 11-19, continue their inauspicious start.
Houston second baseman Lou Ward contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fifth. With two down, he hit a cutter to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 22nd hit of the season and put the Drillers ahead, 4-0.
Said losing manager Kurt Peterson: "We need to play with more of an edge."
