The Montreal Habitants beat the Atlanta Generals, 4-3, at LaSalle Stadium. Montreal first baseman Don Hill had an outstanding performance. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Oscar Rodela, who is a two-time All-Star, was the winning pitcher. Over 7.2 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. Al Johns, who finished 3rd in the ABL in saves with 24 last year, nailed down the save.
The game turned with no one out in the bottom of the fourth. That's when Hill hit a 2-run home run off Frank Combs. It propelled the Habitants into the lead, 3-1.
After the game, Montreal manager Michel Alexandre Cauchon applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
Atlanta, with the loss, is 15-13.
