New York turned a good performance from starting pitcher Jack Forbes into a 4-2 triumph over the Philadelphia Quakers at Quakers Stadium. In 6 innings, Forbes surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 3. He allowed 2 runs. Picking up the save was Brian Williams, his 2nd.
New York used the timely hitting of Steve Wright to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Knickerbockers on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
In postgame remarks, Wright hailed his team's "mettle."
The loss makes the Quakers 10-20.
