The New York Knickerbockers defeated the Philadelphia Quakers, 6-4, at Knickerbocker Stadium. New York second baseman Steve Wright had a superb performance. He was 4-5 with 4 singles. He scored 2 runs. The Quakers fall to 9-22 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1977 season.

The defining moment came in the bottom of the ninth for New York. That's when Bob Underwood hit a 2-run home run off 26-year old left-handed pitcher Sid Shafer to win the game. The home crowd went wild.

"We certainly don't want to get used to losing," said losing manager Jeff Green.
