Larry Stanford, who is tied for 6th in the ABL in quality starts with 5, had a strong outing for the New York Empires against the Atlanta Generals at Queens Field. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 9-1 win. Stanford yielded 1 run over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 3-3. Losses have been few and far between for the Generals so far this season. Their record drops to 19-10.

Dave Helms had a big 2-run double for the Empires in the bottom of the first inning. With New York leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a sinker from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Ron Cwiklinski and swatted a double to left. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Empires ahead, 3-0.
