New York picked up a win at Queens Field, bumping off the Detroit Wolverines, 4-2. Pitcher Jon Pierce was a major reason the Empires emerged victorious. The winning pitcher was Pierce, now 6-1. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 3. The defeat makes Detroit 18-13.

The Empires got a big at-bat from shortstop Dave Matuzak. For the game, Matuzak was 1-1 with a double and a walk. He drove in 3 runs. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 2nd double of the season gave New York a 2-1 lead.

"Enjoyed this one," Matuzak told the New York Daily. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
