Packers Rally For 5-3 Win
|
The Cincinnati Packers had to overcome a fine effort from Pittsburgh pitcher Jerry Wilson to grab a narrow 5-3 win at Roman Arena. Wilson went 7.2 innings and allowed 4 runs. Dave Young, now 1-0, was credited with the win. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0. Erv Koenig recorded the save, his 1st.
Had Allan Houston not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Houston hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Packers.
"I felt good up there," said Houston. "I saw the ball well."
Cincinnati now has a record of 18-15 with the win.
