Empires Take Tight Tangle
A good performance from left fielder Dave Martin helped the New York Empires defeat the Detroit Wolverines, 7-6. Martin went 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the Empires. The loss drops Detroit to 17-14.

The game was decided with no one out in the bottom of the ninth. With New York trailing 6-5, Martin jumped on a fastball from three-time All-Star Brian Long and hit a 2-run home run to left-center. With one swing, the Empires had a walk-off win.

"This joint was rocking," said Martin.
