Wells Shines, But Emeralds Fall Short
The Chicago Hawks overcame a pretty good performance by Seattle third baseman Steve Wells, beating the Emeralds, 10-9, at Puget Field. Wells was 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Tim Torda locked down his 3rd save. Seattle has now lost 4 straight.

Chicago used the timely hitting of Sergio Morales to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Hawks on top, 10-9. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Morales.
