Behind an impressive start by Pete Veirs, Baltimore beat Detroit, 3-2. The winner was Veirs. He threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The loser was Jeff Peachtree. The 5th-place Lords now have a win-loss record of 17-19.
Jerry Downs drew 1 walk in 4 trips to the plate for Baltimore. The 39-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring ground out off John Fredrick. It was his 4th RBI of the season.
"Pete executed his pitches at a high level," said Baltimore manager Jordan Wells.
