Traders Win, 8-2, Versus New York
|
The New York Knickerbockers got a sterling performance from pitcher Danny Abril, but the Chicago Traders still prevailed, 8-2. Abril threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball. Chicago reliever Jimmy Calhoun picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Ollie Hundley was saddled with the loss. The Traders improved their record to 22-15 by beating New York.
Had Tim Rathbone not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Rathbone hit a bases-clearing double. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Traders.
"What a lackluster performance," lamented losing manager Timothy Widholm.
