Bobcats Thwart Captains, 3-2
|
The Cleveland Bobcats picked up a win at Lakefront Stadium, topping the San Diego Captains, 3-2. On the mound for Cleveland was right-hander Myron Baird. He played a principal role in the triumph. The winning pitcher was Baird, now 4-2. He tossed 7.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 4. The loss makes San Diego 19-17.
Kevin Musumeci had a big run-scoring double for the Bobcats in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Cleveland leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from John Espersen, who is tied for 4th in the NBL with a 1.00 WHIP, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Bobcats ahead, 3-1.
"Bottom line," said San Diego skipper Joe Mack, "we didn't play well enough to win."
