Pittsburgh Defeated By Eagles, 3-1
|
The Washington Eagles earned a close win over the Pittsburgh Industrials, thanks in part to Dave Alexander. The Washington right-hander, who is tied for 9th in the NBL in strikeouts with 33, played a key role in the 3-1 victory. With this game in the books, Washington is 17-17, Pittsburgh 19-16.
Alan Cassill, the 17th overall pick in the 1969 draft, took Pittsburgh hurler Bob Briggs deep in the bottom of the third. His 2-run home run put the Eagles on top, 2-0. In all, Cassill had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 5.
"Makes our job easier," said Cassill, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."
