Detroit Upended by Los Angeles, 6-1
|
Thanks in large part to right fielder Richie Lord, the Los Angeles Pobladores beat the Detroit Wolverines, 6-1. Lord went 2 for 4 with a home run and a triple, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. Phil Lester, the winner, improved to 4-2. He held the Wolverines to 1 run on 4 hits over 7.1 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 4. With the win, Los Angeles raised its record to 18-17.
Lord contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Los Angeles in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 1-0, Lord took a cutter from William Matz and stroked the home run to left. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the Pobladores to leap in front, 3-1.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Lord told the Los Angeles Times.
