Hawks, Eldridge Blank New York, 1-0
|
The New York Empires manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Chicago Hawks. The Empires were overpowered by Chicago starter Ken Eldridge, who hurled his club to victory, 1-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Dan Whiting said.
Over 9 innings, Eldridge blanked New York on 4 hits with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Eldridge said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
This year, Eldridge has gone 6-3 with an ERA of 2.82 and has 23 strikeouts in 44.2 innings.
