Bluebirds Spoil Opening Day for Quakers, Their Fans
|
Quakers Stadium was the site of the home opener for the Philadelphia Quakers. The contest featured a prime matchup between Jorge Sandoval of the visiting Brooklyn Bluebirds and Phil Moore of the Quakers. The final score was 7-4, the Bluebirds getting the win. Ron Freeman turned in the best performance.
With Brooklyn trailing 1-0 in the top of the second, Freeman hit a changeup from Phil Moore for a 3-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Bluebirds ahead, 3-1.
"Ron leaves the last at-bat behind him, whether it was good or bad, and goes up there and competes on every pitch," said Brooklyn manager John Meeker.
