Pat Burkholder, who finished 4th in the NBL in ERA with 2.18 in 1968, had a strong outing for the Seattle Emeralds against the Chicago Hawks at Hyde Park Stadium. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 6-2 win. Burkholder, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 4 walks. With the loss, Chicago falls to 1-3.

Seattle won the game in part because of Eddie Rodriguez. The catcher ripped a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Emeralds ahead, 5-2. For the game, Rodriguez had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
