Washington Topples Philadelphia, 7-2
|
The Washington Eagles trumped the Philadelphia Quakers, 7-2, at Monument Field. Washington third baseman Larry Wools was terrific. He went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Dave Alexander, who finished 2nd in the NBL in innings pitched with 285.2 in 1974, was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 8 hits, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Washington is now 15-20. Philadelphia is 11-25.
With Washington leading 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Wools hit a run-scoring single off Philadelphia hurler Glenn Kittle. It was the 45th hit of the season for Wools and put his team ahead, 2-0.
"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Jeff Green.
