Explorers Pin 4-2 Loss on Philadelphia
|
The St. Louis Explorers scooped up a win at Corps of Discovery Stadium, dumping the Philadelphia Quakers, 4-2. Dick Lott, who is tied for 3rd in the NBL with a 6.4 K/9 rate, was essential to his team's success. Lott picked up the win for St. Louis, going 7.1 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 3-3. St. Louis now sits at 16-21, while Philadelphia falls to 13-23.
Bob Raab had a big 2-run home run for the Explorers in the bottom of the third inning. With St. Louis leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from Bob Freeland, who is tied for 5th in the NBL in strikeouts with 39, and punished it. The result was his 4th home run of the season, which put the Explorers on top, 4-0.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Raab, "and then get after it again."
