Knickerbockers Score Late, Top Bobcats, 4-2
|
The New York Knickerbockers defeated the Cleveland Bobcats, 4-2, at Knickerbocker Stadium. Leading the charge for New York was first baseman Francisco Chavez. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. New York pitcher Bruce Elsner got the win, upping his record to 1-0. Tim Fried got the loss. With the win, New York pushed its record to 21-19.
Chavez had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a 1-1 sinker from Tim Fried, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Knickerbockers a 4-2 lead. It was the 5th home run of the year for Chavez.
