In a tight contest between the New York Knickerbockers and the Cleveland Bobcats, Vern Gould was the determining factor. The New York right-hander sparkled in his team's 1-0 win. The winner was Gould. He threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Scott Dubyak. Earning his 2nd save of the year was Ollie Hundley.

The Knickerbockers got a big at-bat from shortstop Dave Lester. For the game, Lester went 1-3 with a triple. In the bottom of the second, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a run-scoring triple. His 2nd triple of the season gave New York a 1-0 lead.

"Vern is a gamer," said New York manager Sean Kelly.

The Knickerbockers saw their record improve to 16-21.
