Quakers Stay Hot, Beat Knickerbockers, 4-3
|
The Philadelphia Quakers topped the New York Knickerbockers, 4-3, with right fielder Jeff Murchison playing a big role. Murchison went 3 for 3 with 3 singles and a walk for the Quakers in the win. Philadelphia starter Fred Harrison was credited with the win after throwing 86 pitches over 5.1 innings. His record now stands at 4-4. The second-place Quakers have won 5 in a row.
Gordy Ferris went 1 for 3 with a walk for Philadelphia. The 27-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring walk off Bruce Owen. It was his 21st walk of the season.
"I like the roll we're on," said Philadelphia manager Jeff Green.
