Dairymen Prevail, 5-4, Over St. Louis
|
The Milwaukee Dairymen and St. Louis Explorers played an entertaining game for Corps of Discovery Stadium patrons.
The Milwaukee Dairymen defeated the St. Louis Explorers by the score of 5-4, with the biggest share of the credit going to left fielder Leon Hughes. Hughes went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles for the Dairymen on the day. Arnie Keilman, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 8th save.
Champ Arkle had a big solo home run for the Dairymen in the top of the seventh inning. With Milwaukee leading 4-1 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from Dick Lott, who is tied for 7th in the NBL with a 6.3 K/9 rate, and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Dairymen on top, 5-1.
Milwaukee manager Brandon Dudley was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
Milwaukee is 20-19 and St. Louis, with the loss, 21-17.
