Blockbusters 2-1 Winners Versus Kansas City
|
The Los Angeles Blockbusters picked up a win at Blockbuster Stadium, courtesy of Larry Messenger. The right-hander helped his team stop the Kansas City Bulls, 2-1. The winning pitcher was Messenger, now 1-3. He tossed 8 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 5. Tom Benson was credited with the save for Los Angeles, his 6th of the season.
The Bulls had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Blockbusters going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old catcher Gary Austin came to the plate. Austin hit a 2-run double on a 1-0 fastball from Kansas City hurler Waldo Hardaway. It was Austin's 4th double of the year.
"Scoring was at a premium tonight," Austin said.
The Blockbusters now have a record of 20-21 with the win over Kansas City.
