Behind the hitting of Al Castro, the New York Empires stopped the Toronto Hurons, 8-5. Castro went 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk for the Empires. Jack Neenan notched his 9th save of the season. The last-place Hurons have lost 4 consecutive games.

Danny Barrera had a big run-scoring double for the Empires in the bottom of the sixth inning. With New York leading 6-5 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a cutter from Al Price, the 9th overall pick in the 1976 draft, and swatted a double to left. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Empires ahead, 7-5.

"You can't take yourself too seriously," Barrera told the New York Daily. "But at the end of the day, we do play to win ballgames."
