Packers Earn Clutch Win, 3-2
|
The Cincinnati Packers, despite a fine performance by Pittsburgh pitcher Dennis Visco, grabbed a 3-2 win at Roman Arena. Visco allowed 3 runs over 7 innings. Dave Young picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-1. Dennis Visco, who is tied for 7th in the NBL in innings pitched with 66.0, was tagged with the loss. Steve Meckley wrapped it up, recording his 1st save.
A crucial at-bat came with the bases empty and no one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. That's when pinch hitter Doug Stewart, who is tied for 8th in the NBL with a .410 on-base percentage, hit a triple. The Packers went on to win.
Stewart attributed the win to his team's "determination."
The Packers go to 16-25 with the win.
