Empires Pin 6-3 Loss on Boston
|
The New York Empires topped the Boston Terriers, 6-3, at Queens Field. New York shortstop Dave Matuzak was a spark plug for the offense. He was 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Andy Humphrey earned the win to go to 1-0. He allowed 3 runs on 9 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work. The loss drops Boston to 1-3.
With New York leading 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth, Matuzak hit a fastball from Tim Jepperson for a 2-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Empires ahead, 6-2.
"I really like what we did out there today," Matuzak said after the game.
