Empires Get Dramatic 5-4 Win
The New York Empires besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Montreal left fielder Jerry Sullivan by beating the Habitants, 5-4, at Queens Field. Sullivan went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI. The win went to Jack Neenan in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Hervé Lelièvre took the loss. New York has won 3 straight, while Montreal has lost 3 in a row.

Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 27-year old right fielder Paul Brower had a real shot to win the game. Montreal pitcher Hervé Lelièvre was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Brower hit a run-scoring single. The Empires had a walk-off triumph.

"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Brower.
