Bluebirds Suffer 4-0 Road Loss
|
The rain made it unbearable at times; nonetheless, the faithful who endured the elements enjoyed themselves.
The Washington Eagles defeated the Brooklyn Bluebirds, 4-0, in National Baseball League action at Monument Field. Washington pitcher Tom McAteer had a standout performance. The winning pitcher was McAteer, now 3-5. He tossed 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 5 and fanning 3.
Jerry Duersch had a big 2-run double for the Eagles in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Washington leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a changeup from Mike Blalock, who is tied for 6th in the NBL in quality starts with 6, and swatted a double to left. It was his 7th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Eagles ahead, 3-0.
"Tom's a gamer," said Washington manager Wally Christensen. "Glad he's on our side."
The Eagles now have a record of 12-28.
