Empires Come Back Late to Top Habitants, 5-2
|
The New York Empires knocked off the Montreal Habitants, 5-2, in American Baseball League action at LaSalle Stadium. New York pitcher and Ranchuelo, Cuba, native Arturo Lopez had an outstanding performance. The winning pitcher was Lopez, now 2-2. He tossed 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 6. Pete Ragsdale notched his 4th save of the season.
New York used the timely hitting of Randy Reed to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Empires on top, 5-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"We came out on top and that's all I can ask for," said Lopez.
New York has now won 3 straight, while the Habitants have lost 3 in a row.
