New York Topples Cleveland, 3-0
|
The New York Knickerbockers had to overcome a good performance from Cleveland pitcher Bob Yolton to claim a 3-0 win at Lakefront Stadium. Yolton went 8 innings and allowed 2 runs. The save went to Ollie Hundley, his 9th this season. New York is now 26-15, 2½ games up in the National Baseball League Eastern Division.
Francisco Chavez, who finished 3rd in the NBL in home runs with 29 in 1969, had a direct impact on the outcome. Chavez contributed a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put New York up, 2-0.
Chavez called winning a team effort. "It's not the same guy every time," he said. "It's the sum of the parts."
