Knickerbockers 7-5 Winners Versus Cleveland
The inspired effort of Cleveland left fielder Bill Harper was not enough to prevent a loss, 7-5, to the New York Knickerbockers. Harper went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. New York reliever Dave Torre picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Myron Baird absorbed the loss. Brian Williams, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 3rd save.

Francisco Chavez, who finished 2nd in the NBL in home runs with 40 in 1973, helped out the New York cause in the bottom of the third inning with a 2-run single. For the game, the first baseman went 1-3. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.

Chavez called winning a team effort. "It's not the same guy every time," he said. "It's the sum of the parts."

New York is now 17-22.
